Most people don’t realise that the bedroom is the most vital space in the house. It is the room that houses your bed, so you go to it when you need to sleep. It is a place of quiet reflection as you stand at the bedroom window with your morning cuppa, gazing out at the world. It is also the place you come to right after your shower, to dress up and prepare for the rigours of the day.
In a way, your bedroom bookends each day of your life, and you want it to be the best version of itself. But you are overwhelmed at the prospect of furnishing the room – start small with these steps:
#1 Get new sheets.
Nothing is as instant a mood lifter as a set of luxurious bed linen. Most people think that luxury bed linen is expensive – those people have obviously not browsed our range of bedsheets online. Check out our range for both single and double bed sheets online, for kids and adults alike. There is a wide range of colours and patterns to choose from as well. When you have great new double bed sheets for your room, the space goes up several notches in the visual appeal stakes.
#2 Add pops of colour.
It is not enough to merely get new bedsheets and comforters and hope for the best. You will have to add colour in tantalising ways to enhance your room’s looks and functionality. There are a few ways to do this: get a colourful new floor rug if the bedroom walls are a pastel shade or invest in a set of wall art paintings. You can even buy curtains in a bold hue to create a striking contrast with the room’s colour scheme. Another great idea, if you have some extra cash to spare, is to invest in a dark wood bed with posts and a high frame – this is an instantly noticeable feature that brings colour and class to the space.
#3 Make a private sitting or reading corner.
Your bedroom has a bed, maybe one chair, a dressing table and a wardrobe. But does it have its own private nook that creates a private space within a private space? A private nook is nothing but a space you create to cut yourself away from the rest of the room. The simplest way to do this is to install a plush sofa chair in a dead corner, have a sheer curtain around it, a throw rug on its back, a footstool and a light source. Sit here with your laptop or curl up with a good book to unwind before bed. It’s a sanctuary that every person needs, and the bedroom is the best space for it.
#4 Have a glamorous dressing table.
You’ve seen celebrity makeup rooms where they get their hair and makeup done seated in front of a mirror festooned with big light bulbs. There is no reason why you can’t have the same in your bedroom. Install light bulbs of 20W all around the mirror frame – the lights throw your face in sharp relief to finding angles for makeup and hair becomes easier. Also get a makeup mirror to see your face up close when getting your groove on.
#5 Get a chandelier above the bed.
The bed is the centrepiece of the room, and it must be highlighted as much as possible. You might not want to spend the money to get a big fancy bed, so why not highlight it literally? We recommend installing a gorgeous chandelier right above your bed – it becomes the main light source for the room and lends the space an old world, Hollywood charm. Combined with luxury double bed sheets on your bed, this becomes the visual focus of the room and speaks volumes about your fine aesthetic sensibilities.
